Australian Menagerie is a competitive game of chance and strategy which highlights the diverse range of Australia's wildlife and habitats.

The aim of Menagerie is to collect as many animal cards as you can for each habitat of your nature reserve and to protect them from threats to their survival, eg. fire pollution and feral animals.

You score points for each animal card you have in your nature reserve at the end of each hand. The first player, or team to gain 100 points wins the game.

A game for all ages.

Exceeded my expectations

We bought this awhile ago but we only just got it off the shelf to have a go. My kids aged 8, 9, and 10 love it. We have started off with the simple level 1 to start. Initially I was a little confused by the instructions but once we started to play it all made sense and is actually really easy to play. We also have 4 extensions which are nice (Tasmanian, Red Centre, Tropical Rainforest, and Coral Reef). There is also the added benefit of active learning happening at the same time. There are 4 cards for each animal but each card contains a different fact about that animal. Now that we have learnt how to play level 1 the kids are starting to read out some of their animal facts as they play. My 8 y.o. in particular loves the outdoors and learning about it, but hates formal sit down bookwork, so this is a perfect way for him to actively learn. He loves reading the facts on the cards and he’s learning new terminology as we go as we explain the meaning of words he’s not familiar with such as ‘nocturnal.’ At the end of each round they need to calculate their score so it also incorporates addition (and can use some multiplication too if you want). By the way we only started homeschooling last year so it’s always nice to find a fun learning resource. I bought this because it looked educational but didn’t think the kids would enjoy it this much as well as having as much learning happening at the same time.
