Leap into action for the yellow-footed rock-wallaby
Wombats may be famous for their square-shaped poo, but it’s time to celebrate the ‘torpedo-like’ poo (or scat) of the yellow-footed rock-wallaby!
In 2017, a decade after Bush Heritage purchased Boolcoomatta Reserve in South Australia, scientists and reserve managers were overjoyed to discover the unique scat of this pretty wallaby. The wallabies had not been seen in the area for over 90 years, but since discovering their pooey torpedoes in 2017 there have been regular sightings on the reserve.

Bush Heritage’s team of ecologists are now busy ensuring the habitat is suitable for the yellow-footed rock-wallaby population to thrive. This includes protecting native species through the removal of foxes and feral goats, rabbits and controlling weeds.
Donations towards the yellow-footed rock-wallaby will support the complex and challenging work of restoring native habitats, including weed removal, tree planting and ecological surveys.
This new fundraising campaign marks the first of a year-long partnership between the Australian Geographic Society and Bush Heritage.
