Southern cassowary (Casuarius casuarius)

Cassowaries are seriously threatened by habitat loss, yet they're possibly the most vital dispersal agents in north Queensland's tropical rainforests: the seeds they glean from fallen fruits on the forest floor pass through the bird's intestines largely intact. For many rainforest plants. cassowaries offer the primary, and perhaps the sole, means of seed dispersal.
