About the Authors:
Michael J Shanahan was appointed a Judge of the District Court of Queensland in 1999 after being Public Defender for Queensland (1990–1998). In February 2011 he became President of the Childrens Court of Queensland. Michael has been an author of Carter's Criminal Law of Queensland since 1994 and is the head author of the work.
Soraya M Ryan has worked as a Crown Prosecutor and as in-house counsel at Legal Aid Queensland. Since January 2010 she has been in private practice, specialising in criminal law. Soraya is also a part-time member of the Queensland Law Reform Commission.
Anthony J Rafter SC was appointed a Judge of the District Court of Queensland in 2006. Prior to his appointment he was in private practice at the Bar and specialised in criminal appeal work.
John J Costanzo has been a Magistrate in the Magistrates Court of Queensland since 2000. He has been an author of Carter's Criminal Law of Queensland for over 12 years and is the author of the annotations to the Summary Offences Act 2005.
Andrew Hoare is a barrister and has been the author of the annotations to the Police Powers legislation in Carter's Criminal Law of Queensland for over 5 years.
