Project History

Australian Geographic Retail is an iconic Australian company with a household name. Our online site and 51 stores around the country are known as a fun destination for the whole family where the wonders of our world come alive. As part of our redevelopment onto the Magento Platform we designed and implemented a full mobile site.

Our mobile site was launched on 2 December 2014 and we have been extremely happy with the results. Our brand target audience is aged 2-99 however our customer is usually a Mum (and adventurous Dad) with kids in the suburbs. We also love grandparents who always convince us that their grandchildren are very advanced! Our strategic vision is to bring our larger than life, exciting, fun, atmospheric and educational experiences in store to our online customers where ever they are. Above all create a seamless user experience with our mobile theme to be our customer where ever they are in their journey.

Technologies Used

We used the Magento platform supported by a Listrak email integration. Our developers were eWave. We chose Magento for its ability to fulfil our unique criteria submitted to potential development partners. We felt confident with its market share providing community wisdom we could harness and we chose a developer who we felt was a leader in their field not only in Australia, but worldwide. Listrak was the top of our list for email marketing as the company is a specialist in the retail area. We supported development with project management tools Basecamp and Smartsheet. And we host with Bulletproof who has supported us with lightening fast response times and expert account management with a human side that we really appreciate when times get tough.

We are most proud of the innovative technology we adapted for our advanced gift finder application, our advanced store locator application (with Geo location capabilities) and our use of the Varnish caching system to dramatically reduce page load times.

Site Design

Our aim was to provide a seamless and engaging customer user experience across all devices and touch points with a special focus on our large and fast growing mobile engagement. We are particularly proud of our gift finder which allows shoppers to choose an age and price range and interest to find the perfect gift for anyone. Our category pages allow for larger clearer images that support our product range. Project Performance

Our mobile site has exceeded our expectations and performed very well since we launched for our busy Christmas season. During the Christmas period after launch traffic was up 93% and revenue up 126% year on year. With our mobile channel now providing 35% of total traffic we are providing our customers with faster site which transacts quicker. We are able to put the right product in front of our customer with our intelligent on site search. Suggest a more personalised range of gifts with our gift finder and steer our customers to their stores destinations quicker with a much better store finder with use my location feature to pin point your location and our nearby stores.
