The Earth's crust and upper part of the mantle are made up of dozens of tectonic plates. These plates are rigid slabs about 100km thick and are moving constantly. Seven of these plates are very large. It is at the boundaries of these plates that most of the Earth's earthquakes and volcanoes occur.

On Shaky Ground teaches you what an earthquake is, how they are measured, where they are most likely to occur. Then takes you back through history to take a look at some the Earth's most powerful earthquakes.

This book is written for children using language that is suitable for their development level. Along with informative text there are amazing illustrations and diagrams to assist in the readers understanding. Perfect to use in school projects.

Did You Know...?

Apollo astronauts set up seismographs on the moon to measure seismic activity. Moonquakes do occur but are smaller and less frequent then earthquakes on Earth.
