Australian Geographic's By the Water's Edge takes readers amongst the rocky shores and estuaries of the world's coastlines. By the Water's Edge is part of an illustrated book series for young readers, the text is written for readers at stage 2. This is a great book for children interested in the natural world and perfect for getting up to date information for school projects. Did You Know…?
An estuary is the border between the fresh water of the river and the tidal salt water of the sea. Mud carried downstream by the river mixes with sand washed in by the tides. This creates fertile areas of land called deltas. Mangrove forests spring up and their roots provide sheltered breeding ground for marine animals. They attract many species of wading birds looking for food.
